![]() The combat is still the same as wow, abilities are similar, pvp will be similar, questing is exactly the same (and boring i might add). But Rift calls itself the next Gen of MMO and it really isn't. Low level dungeons are more challenging than in wow, bosses have more mechanics and actually look like bosses instead of just named mobs, rift chasing and defending from invasions is fun, all the calling combination's can be really interesting and adds diversity. Rift seems cool and all so far (I've played to level 22) And inexpensive instant travel via waypoints to any area I have previously explored means I get to play with who I want, when I want, where I want.Ĭourse I haven't laid hands on it yet and may well come to hate the game, but the information they're releasing is making hands on with other games pale by comparison.Ĭourse I haven't laid hands on it yet and may well come to hate the game, but the information they're releasing is making hands on with other games pale by comparison.Couldn't have said it any better myself.Ĭourse I haven't laid hands on it yet and may well come to hate the game, but the information they're releasing is making hands on with other games pale by uldn't agree more as well. Dynamic scaling of encounter difficulty along with loot provided to players without competition between them is beautiful. The delicate interconnection between having solo content and encouraging player interacting has its solution. And if you can't pick up on obvious? NPCs literally yell at you with voiced dialogue that the smoke and fire billowing up from the village ahead could stand to be remedied. The decade long crutch of "kill ten rats!" being implored by an NPC is replaced by a dynamic environment wherein quests are obvious. The struggle to make a massively multiplayer personal is conquered. Outdated notions of class archetypes and required group formations are gone. Guild Wars 2 feels, to me, to be the first in what I'd call the 3rd gen MMO. Everquest was the grandfather of 2nd gen MMOs to me and WoW is its climax. I see the likes of The Realm, M59 and maybe UO as first generation MMOs. I don't like button mashers generally, god i wish koei would stop making dynasty warriors 400 times over, it does seem fun and i may try it, but it doesn't seem like it could hold my interest. SW:TOR looks like its using the combat system from the TOR rpg games one i did like for the rpgs, but for a mmo? idon't know so far we've heard nothing from this barring the constructed videos they've seenfit to give us. I was wrong when i said it was like dragon age: origins' talents, they were good. The only marked innovations seem rather lackluster now that I've gotten to see them, i though of the rifts being a rarer more of a massive urgent threat of an invading army of mobs ,not something me and 6 others could squash with no trouble.Īnd their talent system floods you with redundant spells rather then modifying what ones you start of with and expanding that starting book with unique spells and abilities. Rift is so close to it you might as well play WoW. ![]()
